Career Coaching for Teenagers

Clearer choices. Greater confidence. A realistic plan for the future.

  • Personalised one-to-one career coaching for teenagers who are choosing subjects, considering university, exploring apprenticeships or simply feeling unsure about what they want to do next.

  • Whether your teenager has a clear ambition, several competing ideas or no idea where to begin, I can help them understand their strengths, explore realistic options and decide on their next steps.

Eva Carroll - Experienced Teacher, Head of Careers & EMCC Accredited Career Coach

 A little bit about me

  • More than 25 years’ experience teaching teenagers.
  • Former Head of Careers and PSHE in several schools
  • A Level 6 Careers Leadership qualification.
  • Professional EMCC coaching training.
  • Knowledge of education, SEND and teenage confidence.
  • The ability to combine impartial career exploration with practical knowledge of schools, courses, university and alternative pathways.

Why Hire A Career Coach?

  • Career information is readily available online, but young people can find the volume of information overwhelming. My role is to help your teenager understand themselves, identify the information that is relevant to them and make sense of the choices available.

  • I combine professional coaching with more than 28 years of educational experience, including work as a teacher, Head of Careers and PSHE and SENCO. I also hold a Level 6 Careers Leadership qualification and am an EMCC-qualified coach.

What is inlcuded?

Personalised 1:1 coaching

Is Your Teenager...

  • Career coaching involves considerably more than the time spent in the appointment. Before the session, I review the information provided and prepare appropriate questions, activities and resources.

  • Following the session, I identify relevant information and provide clear, manageable next steps. Depending on your teenager’s needs, this may include carefully selected information about careers, university courses, apprenticeships, qualifications or alternative pathways.

  • This preparation enables me to provide genuinely personalised career coaching rather than generic careers information.

Is Your Teenager...

Is Your Teenager...

  • Unsure what career would suit them?
  • Struggling to choose subjects, courses or qualifications?
  • Considering university but unsure what or where to study?
  • Feeling under pressure to make the “right” decision?
  • Interested in several completely different career ideas?
  • Wondering whether university is really the best route?
  • Disappointed or confused following exam results?
  • Lacking the confidence to take their next step?

They do not need to have everything worked out. Career coaching gives them the time, structure and support to begin making sense of their options.

How can I help?

“Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.” Unser

Choosing a suitable Career path

University Choices and Course Decisions

University Choices and Course Decisions

For teenagers who are saying:

“I don’t know what I want to do.”

This could cover:

  • Identifying strengths and transferable skills.
  • Exploring interests, motivations and preferred ways of working.
  • Considering suitable career sectors.
  • Challenging assumptions about particular careers.
  • Researching what jobs genuinely involve.
  • Understanding the qualifications and experience required.
  • Turning vague ideas into a manageable shortlist.

Please note: The goal is not to tell a young person what job they should do. It is to help them develop the self-awareness and research skills to make their own informed decision.

University Choices and Course Decisions

University Choices and Course Decisions

University Choices and Course Decisions

University can be an excellent option, but choosing a course simply because it sounds interesting—or choosing a university because friends are going there—can lead to expensive and disappointing mistakes.

I can help teenagers to:

  • Decide whether university is right for them.
  • Explore which subjects and courses fit their interests.
  • Compare similar degree courses.
  • Understand course content rather than relying on course titles.
  • Consider location, campus environment, teaching style and student experience.
  • Compare entry requirements and realistic options.
  • Prepare useful questions for open days.
  • Think about how a degree might connect with future careers.
  • Create a balanced shortlist of choices.

My approach is not anti-university. It is about making sure university is a positive, informed choice rather than an automatic expectation.

University Is Not the Only Route

University Choices and Course Decisions

University Is Not the Only Route

  • For many young people, university remains the right choice. For others, an apprenticeship, college course, professional qualification, school-leaver programme, employment or a carefully planned gap year may offer a better route.

Career coaching can help teenagers compare:

  • Degree and higher apprenticeships.
  • College and vocational courses.
  • School-leaver and trainee programmes.
  • Professional and industry qualifications.
  • Employment with training.
  • University courses.
  • Gap years with a clear purpose.

Is university always the best next step?

Government and education discussions are increasingly questioning the assumption that university should be the automatic destination for every young person.

When Exam Results Change the Plan

Exam results can create new choices as well as new worries. Your teenager may have achieved more than expected, missed an entry requirement or suddenly begun questioning their original plan.

I can help them to:

  • Look calmly at the options available.
  • Decide whether to continue with their original plan.
  • Explore appropriate alternative courses or routes.
  • Consider whether resitting, changing direction or taking additional time would help.
  • Make decisions based on their long-term goals rather than panic or pressure.
  • Create a clear next-step plan.
