Today’s young people are growing up in a world full of pressure, uncertainty, and endless choices related to their career options.
Many students are feeling:
- overwhelmed about the future
- anxious about making the “wrong” decision
- unsure what options are available
- lacking confidence or direction
- under pressure to have everything figured out
Research suggests that:
Many students say they feel unprepared for employment and future decision-making. In fact, 73% of young people in the UK feel anxious about their future careers (Guardian - January 2026). Nearly half of UK young people report feeling uncertain about their future options (Education and Employers - May 2025). Around 1 in 8 young people aged 16–24 are currently NEET, not in education, employment, or training (Youth Futures Foundation - February 2026).
At the same time, careers education and guidance can vary hugely between schools and colleges, leaving many young people feeling unsupported at one of the most important stages of their lives. Initiatives like the Future Career Programme aim to bridge this gap and provide the necessary support for navigating career options effectively.
